It was a hot summer night in Southern California. Jon Paul Puno, a high school
student, was in Los Angeles on a family vacation. While on his laptop, he
stumbled upon an announcement from Pace e Bene, a non-profit Franciscan
organization which was looking for a filmmaker to produce a film about
peace that would reach people all over the world. He immediately sent an email:
Sr. Mary, my name is Jon Paul Puno and I am 17 years old...I am an aspiring filmmaker,
and am looking for some experience…I have had some experience with filmmaking
through making projects for school…and would like to serve God using my talents...”
Hours later, he received the reply:
What a great surprise to find your email…Your message came on the day that I
[was]…thinking of how to get started on the video. I'm taking that as
synchronistic, as Providential Grace! We are ready to start with the
film - all we need is the filmmaker! Before we even talk,
I need to say Pace e Bene is like Francis of Assisi (our inspiration)
rather poor…Peace, Mary Litell
He replied: Hi Sr. Mary! Maybe it is Providential Grace...
